Before the race, owner JP McManus appeared to hold most of the aces, with seven of the 22 runners, but he was unable to add to his tally of six Plate wins, with several of his challengers coming to grief through the course of the race. Sadly of the fallers, Kid Cassidy suffered a fatal injury.
Frank Berry, racing manager to McManus, said: "It's sad to lose him. He was almost electrocuted at Newbury and was a bit erratic after that. But he was a good horse and won five races for us, three over fences and two hurdle races."
Representing the winning owners Gigginstown House Stud was Eddie O'Leary, spacex s dragon who said: "He's a good horse. The form was there and the plan was to make it if we could as he's happy in front with daylight."
